Sustainability and innovation initiatives between Singapore and India

So there is a lot of buzz around sustainability, climate solutions – yet what are the cross border sustainability and innovation initiatives between Singapore and India when it comes to the built world?

Singapore and India signed this Wednesday, 23 February an agreement to collaborate in areas of science, technology and innovation. This initiative took place at the international meeting DST-CII Technology Summit, organised by Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), together with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), and Government of India. The Summit was graced by Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, Singapore; and Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, India.  

The Technology Summit saw the signing of an implementation agreement between Enterprise Singapore (ESG) and India’s DST, to bring together corporations and startups from both countries to collaborate on developing new innovative technologies and solutions. The focus sectors of this network were mainly in current key areas such as Climate and Sustainability, Green Technologies, Smart Cities & Urbanisation challenge, Technology & innovation, among others.

BillionBricks, represented by COO Yves Luethi, joined one of the panel discussions during the event where the panelists focused on areas around urban technology and sustainable solutions and design, and potential collaboration between both India and Singapore. The experts in the round included Mr V Suresh, Immediate National Past Chairman, IGBC (Moderator), Mr Satish Kamat, President – Sri City Operations, Sri City Pvt. Ltd.

The expert round and the event featured various interesting innovations in the field of housing solutions, smart technology and even biotech including Mr Sandeep Shikre, President & CEO, SSA Architects, Mr Maheep Singh Thapar, M.D, ADAPT Technologies & Consultancy Services India Pvt Ltd, Mr Shrikant Bapat, Country General Manager and Managing Director, Johnson Controls (I) Pvt. Ltd, Ms Kavita Gandhi, Executive Director, Sustainable Energy of Singapore, Dr Avishek Kumar, CEO, V Flow Tech.
